It’s amazing what can be achieved with Community support! In 2019, my friends Justina and Malcolm held a country themed night and raised £6440 for a specialised electronic standing frame for me. I am overwhelmed and forever grateful for the support, kindness and generosity I received from my local community. Also to the many country singers who gave up their time to sing free of charge that night. This fantastic piece of equipment greatly aided my recovery. 5 years ago I was hoist lifted and strapped into the frame with my sparkly pink boots for ankle support. I used the equipment for up to 6 hours a day and no I didn’t listen to the advice of only 20 minutes per day! The stander strengthened my muscles and improved circulation, blood pressure, kidney function and digestion. However for me the biggest achievement was having the ability to stand independently without requiring human support. Once my blood pressure dropped I could also sit down or lay flat in the machine to recover before returning to a standing position again. The standing frame is currently being used by another local man.
